Purpose

“There’s no escaping reason, no denying purpose, for as we both know, without purpose we would not exist. It is purpose that created us, purpose that connects us, purpose that pulls us, that guides us, that drives us; it is purpose that defines, purpose that binds us.“ This is a quote by Agent Smith in The Matrix Reloaded (2003). While Agent Smith is the antagonistic villain of the Matrix Reloaded, his words ring true for me as I write this blog. This blog explores our purpose in video marketing.

Finding Our Purpose

We, as Film Division, have been going strong for over decade. Team members have come and gone, but we all shared the same goal: to produce slick, creative and jaw dropping moving imagery.

However, this was no longer enough.

After creating over a thousand videos for hundreds of clients, our passion began to dwindle. Yes, we have some of the best cameras and lenses available in the industry and still get excited on set. But something started to stir in the backs of our minds. Slowly, a lingering thought became a burning question. What is our purpose in video marketing.

Why? Why do we do what we do?

And that’s when we realised we needed help.

Keeping It Real

Through a mutual connection, we reached out to Stephan Ummelen. If you haven’t heard about him before, just watch his TED talk. He will surely enlighten and inspire you:

With Stephan as our guide, we embarked on a quest to find the answer to our “WHY”. Our entire team got together and through different exercises, small steps became huge leaps forward.

Suddenly, the answer was clear as day:

Our videos needed to make a positive change to the world.

That moment, that realisation, as simple as it may sound, is now the cornerstone of our approach to video production.

I imagine many people reading this have spent time in jobs that weren’t satisfying – working for companies whose sole reason for existing seems to be nothing more than putting money in someone else’s already deep pocket. In a time where the gap between the rich and the poor has never been greater,

Film Division now exists to assist people and organisations that prioritise people, planet, and prosperity over profit.

 

To put it more simply:

We give a shit, about organisations who give a shit.

The team finally had another relatable goal to share amongst ourselves. So we no longer just make great videos. Instead, you’ll get great video content filled with purpose. This is how we do our part to make the world a better place. For people, planet and prosperity. Ultimately, we want our content to be a catalyst for change!
