We produced a captivating video for MTV focusing on the environmental impact of glitter used during festival season. The video visualises how plastics, including glitter, spread in the ocean using an eco-glitter bomb. It features material engineer Lauren Howe and highlights the detrimental effects of plastic glitter on marine life while promoting eco-friendly alternatives.
The project aimed to not only convince the audience to switch from plastic to a bio degradable glitter, but to also inspire young women to pursue engineering careers. Our team faced the challenge of creating and filming a controlled underwater explosion in super slow-motion to show glitter dispersing. Initial attempts using a small glass fish tank resulted in shattered glass and burnt glitter. Learning from this, we upgraded to a 1000-litre plastic tank and devised a safe method to disperse glitter using a large custom-built party popper.
Filming utilised a Phantom VEO 640S camera, capturing footage at 8,000 frames per second to ensure detailed slow-motion shots. After extensive testing, the we successfully filmed the glitter explosion, creating a visually stunning and impactful video.
This project underscored the importance of pre-production planning in explosive video marketing, demonstrating that preparation is crucial for achieving the desired results. This extra effort resulted in a spectacular visual that raises awareness about the environmental impact of glitter and encourages sustainable practices.
