Getting the best kit
A clear example of the synergy in our collaboration with Panny Hire was seen a few weeks ago when a new piece of kit arrived in the form of a Ronin 2. This piece of kit is what we call a gimbal. Our Los Angeles based partner Stewart Addison has written an excellent piece on Cinema5D about the use of gimbals. Basically, a gimbal allows you to create steady and stable shots when you are actually moving.
So when we opened the package, we just knew we had to take it out for some test shots. The result is what you see in the video below.
In this video we mounted a RED Epic-W 8K with a RED Pro Prime Cinema lens and asked our production assistant Josh to walk around in the car park. Camera operator Lou lifted the nearly 15 kilograms of equipment to shoot this short sequence. Normally you would expect a lot of shaking and trembling when you are filming with all of that weight and walking around. But just look how smooth this footage is.
